One Year Later…

One year on from that magical summer in France, it’s been an unprecedented twelve months that none of us could have foreseen. We hope you are all well and finding new and interesting ways to stay connected, active and healthy.

In any case, being far from a lot of our family and friends, we thought we would take some time to share a little bit about how our first year of marriage has been.

For us, arriving back in Hong Kong was certainly a reality check - especially in the midst of the pro-democracy protests and activism - but it was nice to come back home as husband and wife.

We managed to get away to Thailand for a quick break in October, which was bliss. Jess and Edward - who had recently moved to Singapore - came back to Hong Kong to spend Christmas with us and, shortly after the new year, we returned the favour by visiting them in Singapore along with Jay’s parents.

As COVID-19 started to become more widespread, we considered ourselves very lucky that we managed to squeeze in our proper honeymoon in February. We went to Vietnam where we actually got stuck for an extra day as our original return flight was cancelled - Jay made a short video of where we stayed, and you’ll see that staying an extra night was no bad thing!

Back in Hong Kong, although social distancing measures are in place - such as flexible working, home-schooling, restrictions on gathering places - the common use of facial coverings, hand sanitiser and good practices learned from the city’s 2002 experience with SARS has meant we haven’t experienced a full “lockdown”; we’ve been fortunate to be able to continue day-to-day life with some sense of normalcy.

And so, all-in-all, while our first year of marriage has played out against an usual series of world events, we’ve navigated a wonderful first year of marriage together and are very happy, safe and healthy.

Drop us a line or an e-mail: we’d love to hear how you are, how you’ve navigated the past year, and reminisce on memories from last Summer.

Oh, and we do have one more thing…

WE’RE HAVING A BABY!!! 🎉

We’re incredibly excited to be welcoming this little one to our family in November and we can’t wait for you all to meet… errr… him or her… (WE know the baby’s gender, but we’ve decided on keeping that a surprise).

So while this won’t have met the countdown that the prospective grandparents were hoping for, you can imagine they were as - if not more - excited than us. Speaking of which, we’ll leave you with this short video of our parents’ reactions when we told them the news.

Love,

J&K(+1)x
