General
The Dordogne is a popular destination in Summer so we recommend making accommodation arrangements at your earliest opportunity.
There are many different options for location and types of accommodation in the Dordogne. Depending on how you want to experience the region, you can choose from staying in a hotel with local charm, a holiday home rental or even pitch up at a camp site. To make planning your stay a little easier, we’ll breakdown a few of those things here and share some suggested itineraries based on how long you might be staying in France.
Locations
RIBÉRAC
The nearest local town plays host to a lively Friday market and will be a central point for most of the festivities and gatherings. If possible, we recommend you stay in and around here.
SAINT-PAUL-LIZONNE
A quite little village, Saint-Paul-Lizonne is home to Chateau La Gauterie where the wedding will take place. Whilst a lot quieter than Ribérac, this is also a good option for those who want to be close to the wedding venue.
CELLES
The neighbouring commune to Ribérac, Celles is a 15 minute drive away. This small village is a home away from home for a lot of our French friends, so you’ll be in good company.
aubETERRE-SUR-DRONNE
A 20 minute drive from Ribérac, Aubeterre is a bustling town on a hill that is often full of tourists, merchants and plenty of things to see and do, particularly during the summer.
SAINT-Séverin
Close to Saint-Paul-Lizonne, Saint-Severin is a larger village, with restaurants and shops for those who want to wander and explore.
OTHERS
A mix of quiet hamlets and lively villages, the neighbouring towns and communes are all a short drive from one another. You can consider looking into the following: Montagrier, Tocane-Saint-Apre, Saint Victor, Verteillac and Villetoureix.
Types of Accommodation
HoTELS
Although you are unlikely to find luxury-brand hotels in this part of France, you will find a number of independent hotels with individual and local charm. As a result, facilities and amenities will vary.
Chambres D’HôTES
You may be more likely to find chambres d’hôtes in the Dordogne - a guesthouse or bed and breakfast. As with hotels, facilities and amenities will vary from property to property, as will offered meal arrangements, but your hosts will have plenty of local knowledge to help you make the most of your stay.
GITES
If you are travelling in a large group or want to pool together, a gite or holiday home for rent might be a good option. A gite would be fully self-catered and so it is a good idea to make sure you know a little about your local area - such as the location of your nearest supermarket and some local restaurants. Again, facilities will vary from property to property.
